Whew. Big week. Nothing to do with the label or distro though, sorry. Amber and I have a dog now. Her name is Hannah. An early Christmas present puppy from Jacob and Rich in St. Augustine. Lots of pictures in the flickr.
I called in sick today… and by the time I got up and did puppy stuff it was lunch time. No internet at the house means I update this from Panera. This place is gross and loud. Anyway, forgive there being no descriptions for these items. I just want to be out of here.
Funeral Shock “III” 7″ _ $3.50
Funeral Shock “Paint Thinner” 7″ _ $3.50
Vile Nation “s/t” 7″ _ $3.50
Weekend Nachos “Punish and Destroy” LP _ $8.50
ANS “The Pool” LP _ $8.50
Alligator “Prehistoric Reptilians” LP w/ CD _ $8.50
Cowboys Became Folk Heroes “s/t” LP _ $8.50
So, another Gainesville fest come and gone. Twas quick and fun. One of the better moments for me was the house show with Pink Razors, Brainworms and Cult Ritual.
I played at The Kickstand with Environmental Youth Crunch and - that show was amazing! That place is amazing. I still don’t know a whole lot about it, but the inside and outside- ness of it was certainly enjoyable.
We sold a good amount of records, although this picture is from last year. And I just updated the list. So be sure and check that for what you’d like to order.
I got some more trades in from The People’s Republic of Rock and Roll in St. Augustine and Black Water Records in Portland. Underground Road To Candyland and Autistic Youth rule! I typed up some more older stuff I had from the store as well.
Enjoy, and see you at THE FEST. - Josh
2 Pac “Pacs Life” 2xLP _ $16.00
Autisic Youth “Empty Eyes” 7″ _ $3.50
Some killer melodic smashers here! …similar to early eighties California. Not far of from The Adolescents or the harder songs on The Descendents Milo goes to College.
Bafabegiya / Acts of Sedition “split” LP _ $7.00
Two bands that do hardcore right. Both bands play old school style hardcore mixed in with some chugging metal here and there. Good stuff!
Black Dice “Smiling Off” LP _ $11.00
Electronic squiggles carry microscopic lifeblood from limb to limb.
Black Sabbath “Born Again” PICLP _ $13.00
Black Sabbath “Mob Rules” PICLP _ $13.00
Filth of Mankind “The Final Chapter” LP _ $9.00
It is some fucking awesome doom laden crust a la Stormcrow and the like.
Forca Macabra “Aquie o Inferno” LP _ $9.00
Forca Macabra´s new album “Aqui é o inferno” (”The hell is here” in English) is kiler! It was recorded at the Sonic Pump Studios in Helsinki, Finland, and contains 13 songs of intense and passionate 80’s brazilian styled thrashcore with Portuguese vocals all trademarks of Forca Macabra since they started in 1991 and have since released well over a dozen records! This being their 3rd full length; featuresmembers of Selfish, Kuolema, Kansan Utiset etc. Cover art by legendary japanese artist SUGI!
Lachance “s/t” (worn cover) 10″ _ $7.00
Mid Carson July “Ten Years on Autopilot” LP _ $7.00
New Brutalism “Territorial…” LP _ $7.00
.. introduce a much more raw noise rock element to their sound. While there are influences from shellac still influence, the raw rock edge completely dominates on this recording. Sort of sound like UNSANE covering SHELLAC songs at points.
Scrotum Grinder “The Greatest…” LP _ $8.00
Unrelenting! Explosively powerful creative thrash marked with tough metallic breakdowns, floor-punching chunka-chunka, and raucous female vocals. Speeding hardcore filled with abrasive twists and turns, violent vocal trade-offs and dark and thoughtful lyrics. This debut album from Tampa, Florida’s Scrotum Grinder follows two well-received singles on Florida’s Burrito Records. Scrotum Grinder is composed of members of the bands Hankshaw (though they sound nothing alike), Failure Face, along with Steve Kosiba, who was in “Misery Index”-era Assück and lead vocalist, Michelle who is a punk rock crowd-leaping terror and later sang in Momento Mori! “The Greatest Sonic Abomination Ever” is by no means a repeat of past bands or sounds, this tears with inventiveness and imagination while still keeping even keel with a destructive hardcore path, an apocalyptic dark ride with lyrical hope and inspiration as a guide
Sole “Plutonium - Selling Live Water” LP _ $8.00
The follow-up 12 inch to Sole’s acclaimed full length “Selling Live Water’ has finally arrived. The title track is a remix of “Plutonium”, the classic, Alias produced, Sole- anthem about searching for truth in left and right wing propaganda in the press. Alias remixes his own beat down to it’s teeth, creating a Blade-Runner-ish eeriness to sole’s already dark ponderings.
Sole “New Single” LP _ $8.00
Limited new Anticon 12″ from Sole’ prior to his soon come third studio album ‘Live From Rome’. ‘Sim Carne’ produced by Odd Nosdam rocks slacker drums, psych keys and a super dope vocal from Sole - folkier then his usual aggressive slant. ‘Every Single One Of Us’ is produced by Anticon star producer Alias - a rustic funker that would sound very correct on Bully, Sole’s vocals multi tracked for a pure old school Anticon headbuzz effect.
Strikeforce Diablo “The Albatross..” LP _ $8.00
Strikeforce Diablo employs an angular, post hardcore sound that swerves from tight, tribal drum and bass rhythms to scene stealing bombastic choruses that drip with the righteous angst that only down and out indie rockers seem to be able to summon.
Underground Road To Candyland “”Bird Roughs” CASS _ $4.00
In true understated fashion, we must say that Underground Railroad to Candyland rules. We are stoked to be a part of this. The Record and cd came out on Recess Records. There is also a version of the cd that was released in Japan by Underground Government Records! Anyway….this project includes members of TOYS THAT KILL, and F.Y.P.
Listen and see Underground Road To Candyland here..
Got some new jams from the People’s Republic of Rock and Roll (the tapes) as well as a trade from Josh of Syracuse’s Barbarossa Records (Culture Shock / Daggers Rule) and the new CULT RITUAL 7″ from Chris at Drugged Conscience. Enjoy -Josh
Alligator “Prehistoric Reptilians” CASS _ $4.00
Welcome to The long awaited Alligator debut “Prehistoric Reptilians”. A wild release to say the least. Loud and untamed yet twistfully dancy, all the while maintaining a decent amount of pleasure-ful tidbits. Featuring members of TUBERS, ENVIRONMENTAL YOUTH CRUNCH, THE WINSLOWS and more….We’re proud of this one.
Brainworms “Tape” CASS _ $4.00 Tis True…..Welcome to PRcubed vol.4…..This is a BEAST. Somehow I wouldn’t call it fierce, and yet still worlds apart from tame…..It is perfectly executed. Brainworms are the tightest musical bros on the planet right now. While listening to this tape I realized, ”SHIT…this is the band that is going down in history…..and we’re all lucky enough to be around while they are writing it.” Anyway, we’re stoked about this if you can’t tell. This release is titled “TAPE” and it is sort of a singles collection; an excellent way to listen to all of those glorious 7″ splits if yer lazy and don’t want to change the records or if yer lazy and in yer car.
Cult Ritual “s/t” 3rd EP 7″ _ $4.00
Haven’t heard about these guys yet? Scroll down a bit, we posted a link to the bands discography online. If that suits your fancy, pick up one of these gems. A noisier release or sure.
Culture Shock “s/t” 7″ _ $3.50
These guys fucking hate everything! The nine songs on this CD don’t stray too far from the tried and true formula of straight-ahead hardcore. It’s really easy to play this style of music badly, but these guys have it nailed down. It sounds like they’re really into INFEST or DROPDEAD with a singer that sounds like a cross between Sam McPheeters and the guy from HOLY SHIT! The lyrics in the first few songs are a little generic (hatred of fucking everything ever!), but seem to mature throughout the CD, dealing with topics such as white privilege, body image, and having a father addicted to heroine. This is a good demo; I can see this band growing over time into a brutal, yet thoughtful hardcore band.
Daggers Rule “s/t” 7″ _ $3.50
There is something very endearing about this now defunct Syracuse band I can’t put my finger on. The music lies somewhere between street punk and metallic hardcore–normally a combination I can’t stand, yet DAGGERS RULE pull it off with enough catchiness and sincerity that I found myself flipping this record over and over again. Take the best parts of IRON CROSS, SHEER TERROR, YOUTH BRIGADE (DC), add a modern twist and you might just get DAGGERS RULE. This is really great stuff. Oh, the artwork is fucking top notch too.
Roomate “New Steam” 10″ _ $9.00
In addition to the title track, which will also be released on Roommate’s forthcoming 2nd album, the EP features covers of songs by Red Red Meat and Broadcast. It closes with an instrumental track initially conceived for Adrian Briscoe’s documentary The Love Life of Emidio Anotci, abou tan elderly Roman man’s memories of his late wife. This 10″ vinyl edition (in a limited run of 500 copies) includes letterpress artwork designed by Dean Rank and printed at Chicago’s Dexterity Press. Fancy!
Gary from Accident Prone Records is a nice dude. I’ve only asked him to trade a few times, but he is always down. So below are some new records we now have in stock.
Speaking of great music… Unfortunetly, the man to the left doesn’t have any recordings I’m aware of… I saw him playing in St. Augustine and took his picture. If you have any Charlie Brown record let me know. Though i think he does mostly covers - you know, real crowd pleasers like “Brown Eyed Girl”. That’s all I heard him playing.
Anyway, new stuff from Accident Prone is posted below.
-Josh
Cattle Decapitation “Human Jerky” LP PIC _ $9.00
Extremely distorted guitars and non-stoping blastbeats are the background to a high-pitched voice with a lower end in the back… which is different to the new releases, with the death growls over the screamings. The songs are pretty fast and the average length is about one minute per track!. Think old Napalm death or Carcass.
Dukes of Hillsborough / Mercury League “split” 7″ _ $3.50
The Dukes bang it out with grim and dirt typical of Tampa Bay. The Mercury League kill it 90’s Epitaph style. Short and sweet.
Science of Yabra / Life at These Speeds “split” LP _ $9.00 Life At These Speeds bring us 5 new songs. Beautiful, haunting, epic, and diverse are just a few words to describe the amazing new jams from the LATS boys. Science of Yabra give us 3 new cuts of heavy, pounding, and discordant rock and roll. This record commemorates the friendship between the two bands, the labels, and an amazing trip to Europe in the summer of 2005.
Tiltwheel “The Heavens Declare…” LP _ $9.00
This is not a new tiltWheel record. It was originally released in 1998 on Firmament Records. These copies are from that original pressing. We acquired the remaining copies that had been sitting in Firmament’s garage for the last 5+ years and inserted them into new covers with artwork (based on the original theme) by the original tiltWheel artist, Carson.
Tiltwheel / Notice “split” 7″ _ $3.50
Two songs on orange vinyl by the fastest shoegazer band in the world, including a cover of “March of the Flying Squirrel” by Sheephead. Really, no offense to Notice, but, sweet jesus, if you haven’t heard these two Tiltwheel songs, you’re really missing out. How the hell can they squeeze such goodness into such tiny, tiny grooves?
I started getting some trades in from other labels. I got this stuff last week, but never got to a computer all weekend - i was too busy camping and eating pancakes (see flickr). Anyway these few gems below are on the label “Art of The Underground”. Alex, who runs the label, is very nice - I’ve met him a few times at Environmental Youth Crunch shows / tours. It was fantastic of him to trade! I’ve been listening to these records and really dig them all in different ways. Anyway, thanks Alex!
-Josh
Baud, Malcolm “Covered in Dust” LP _ $9.00
Malcolm Bauld (ex-Frenetics) from Montreal brings you excellent punk anthems in the vein of The Weakerthans and Billy Bragg. Toss a few ballads with honest emotion in the mix and you have one kick ass debut album!
Kind of Like Spitting “The Thrill of the Hunt” LP _ $9.00
Barnett’s songs can rotate between somber, solemn solo pieces, explosive, full-band rock or pop, and songs with his talented friends bringing in other instruments to highlight or create a mood. Between all styles handled by Kind of Like Spitting, though, lies the solid punk ethic and influence and an ability for immense lyrical depth and directness held by truly few.
Lemuria “Get Better” CD _ $9.00
Lemuria “Get Better” LP _ $9.00
With Get Better, Lemuria channel the best moments of mid-`90s alternative and emo, and perhaps unintentionally pay homage to bands like Rainer Maria and Discount. Intentional or not, it sounds awesome and ought to be a welcome addition to the library of any fan of those bands. The vocal harmonies are earnest and catchy. The guitar work creates palpable tension with crunches and mutes in the appropriate places.
Running For Cover “Dark Well” LP _ $9.00
Brutal fast-core with devastating lyrics for fans of Crossed Out and Infest. Features members of Slave State, No Time Left and They Live.
Lemuria “The First Collection” LP _ $9.00
Ghost Mice / Andrew Jackson Jihad “split” LP _ $9.00
They’re certainly another reason to say I’m proud of living in Florida. Musically, it’s a noisier Poison Idea meets Black Flag with powerful dissonance and sharp undertones. Conceptually, the band is a splattering of intelligent dark imagery with lyrics to match. Not necessarily an “art” band, but artfully done.
Most certainly a punk band though. Every performance I’ve seen of them is an amalgamation of everything punk is, could and will be - in the most ideal sense. Yet as you watch and listen, you secretly know you are witnessing this bands ascension from the stack of redefining rubble of other bands’ past, of our history - of the canon of aural anguish we’ve come to know so dear.
Environmental Youth Crunch’s “Vicious Fishes” could be their best by far. What’s that you say, our favorite”eco-punks” at it again with doses of catchy riffs set to pop-punk paces denouncing all forms of degradation and destruction? Well not so much, and lay off the “eco-punk” please. Continuing maturation and transformation finds some things that are familiar in vocal and musical arrangement, while at the same time announcing the beginning of a new era for these fine gentlemen.
Recorded by Lenny Rutland in late spring of 2008. The first 3 songs on this cassette will be on a split 7” with Richmond’s Mouthbreather, out on Rorschach Records. Side B has songs that Jacob recorded himself. This cassette is EYC’s most diverse material. It also includes some tasty covers!
Three of these tracks can be heard right from this website - how exciting! So swagger your peeled pupils to the right menu bar and click for cacophony!
Go ahead, listen!
OK.. At this point you might be thinking “this sounds familiar…” Chances are you A) have been to Best Friend’s Day in Richmond at least once in the last four years, B) have been to Gainesville’s The Fest at least once in the last 4 years, C) are a fan of, or have at least witnessed, the TV show Friends, or D) have nice friends who play you great music.
Here is a list of other songs on this fine recording. –>
This cassette is $4ppd, and was released is conjunction with The People’s Republic of Rock and Roll.
